Senior Promotional Requirements

 

 

The promotional examination for senior Judoka includes:

Shiai for competitors.

Demonstration of required techniques.

Written Examination.

 

A candidate for promotion is categorized as one of the following:

Shiai Competitor

Kata Competitor

Non‑Competitor

 

 

Consideration for promotion will be given in attending designated clinics, training camps and teacher's institutes as well as  refereeing or working as an off mat official.

 


Adult Promotion Requirements

 

ROKKYU  (6th Class White Belt)

This rank is assigned to individuals of good moral character, who have been accepted as students in a Judo club or class.

 

 


GOKYU  (5th Class White Belt)

1.                  Good moral character and maturity.

2.                  Regular practice and attendance.

3.                  Time in grade as Rokkyu ‑ 3 months.

4.                  Tournament experience ‑ limited contest experience. No contest points required.

5.                  Ability to demonstrate:

Ukemi, Kumikata, Shisei, Shintai, Kuzushi, Taisabaki.

6.                  Waza from the DAI‑IKKYO (must know all eight throws).

7.                  Osaekomi Waza (selected from Kesa Gatame, Kata Gatame, Yoko Shiho Gatame, and Kami Shiho Gatame).

8.                  Shime Waza (Mae ‑ front).

9.                  Shime Waza (Ushiro ‑ rear).

Note: The requirements for competitors, non‑competitors and women are the same in this rank.

 

 


YONKYU  (4th Class White Belt or Green Belt)

 

1.      Good moral character and maturity.

2.      Regular practice and attendance.

3.      Time in grade as Gokyu:

4.        Non‑competitor (over 35)                   6 months

5.        Non‑competitor (under 35)                 1 year

6.        Shiai competitor                                   3 months

            Kata competitor                       3 months

 

1.      Promotional points ‑ 3.

2.      Ability to demonstrate:

a.       Ukemi, Kumikata, Shisei, Shintai, Kuzushi, Taisabaki.

b.      Two waza each from the DAI‑IKKYO and the DAI‑NIKYO (must know all 16 throws).

c.       Three Osaekomi Waza (selected from Kesa Gatame, Kata Gatame, Yoko Shiho Gatame, Kami Shiho Gatame, Kuzuri Kesa Gatame and Kuzuri Kami Shiho Gatame.

d.      Two Shime Waza (Mae ‑ front).

e.       Two Shime Waza (Ushiro ‑ rear).

f.        One1 Kansetsu Waza.

g.       One Renraku Waza.

Note: The requirements for competitors, non‑competitors and women are the same in this rank except for time in grade.

 

            SANKYU (3rd Class Brown Belt)

1.      Good moral character and maturity.

2.      Regular practice and attendance.

3.      Time in grade as Yonkyu:

Non‑competitor (over 35)                                9 months

Non‑competitor (under 35)                               1 year

Shiai competitor                                                6 months

Kata competitor                                               6 months

4.      Promotional points ‑ 5.

5.      Ability to demonstrate:

6.        Ukemi, Kumikata, Shisei, Shintai, Kuzushi, Taisabaki.

7.      2 Waza each from the DAI‑IKKYO, DAI‑NIKYO and the DAI‑SANKYO (must know all 24 throws).

8.      4 Osaekomi Waza (selected from Kesa Gatame, Kata Gatame, Yoko Shiho Gatame, Kami Shiho Gatame, Tate Shiho Gatame, Kuzuri Kesa Gatame (2), Kuzuri Kami Shiho Gatame (2)).

9.      f Shime Waza (Mae ‑ front).

10.  3 Shime Waza (Ushiro ‑ rear).

11.  2 Kansetsu Waza.

Time in grade as Sankyu:

Kata competitor                                               6 months

Promotional points ‑ 7.

Receive a minimum score of 50 on the written test.

Ability to demonstrate with a minimum average score of 6:

Ukemi, Kumikata, Shisei, Shintai, Kuzushi, Taisabaki.

2 Waza each from the DAI‑IKKYO, DAI‑NIKYO, DAI‑SANKYO and the DAI‑YONKYO (must know all 32 throws).

6 Osaekomi Waza (selected from Kesa Gatame, Kata Gatame, Yoko Shiho Gatame, Kami Shiho Gatame, Tate Shiho Gatame, Kuzuri Kesa Gatame (2), Kuzuri Kami Shiho Gatame (2) and Kuzuri Tate Shiho Gatame).

(Uke) 1st set and must be able to explain and or teach two of the following three Katas:

 Nage‑No‑Kata, Katame‑No‑Kata, or Ju‑No‑Kata.
